A Monster Themed Messy Play

Monsters are one of our all-time favourite things. Artie is always calling herself the little monster and it's not 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed, it's 5 little monsters don't you know!

We seem to have accumulated quite a few monster books, I think it all started when we were trying to encourage teeth brushing by explaining to Artie that she has to brush the monsters out of her teeth - a story for another day! I recently found the 10 minutes to bedtime little monster* book by Rhiannon Fielding and Chris Chatterton and Artie has really taken to it. It's a sweet little story about a monster named Belch who is running around the house before bedtime eating jelly and playing before she is all tired out and goes to bed.

So I decided to make her a version of Belch that she could play with/destroy out of various dried beans and rice. I chose beans and rice because of their colours. I didn't really want to be dyeing anything because of time constraints. The blue rice was actually leftover mixed rice from the bee messy play!

This was so fun to put together. I created the image of Belch, It's been condensed into a 1 minute video but It probably took me about 30 minutes along with baby wake ups.

Alongside Belch we had 4 of her other monster books and we set up the Flisat table with dyed shaving foam and jelly filled with worms and bugs!

I got her little monster costume* ready - we have a pink one and a blue one, they're so cute!!

This was the outcome of today's monster themed messy play!

It's a long video but I find it fascinating how she approached the messy play and how it evolves. you can really tell she's getting so much sensory benefit from it all. It was loads of fun for all of us!!
